Terms of Service
Terms & Conditions governing your use of Penypost
Summary & Key Notice
By creating an account or using Penypost, you agree to these Terms. You must be at least 13 years old (under 18 needs a parent or guardian's permission). Private letters are only for the sender and the recipient, while posts on the public feed can be seen by other users. We never use your content for promotion. Digital items are licensed for use inside Penypost, and payments and refunds go through Google Play. Harassment, hate, scams and sexual content are not allowed, and you can report or block anyone anonymously.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Penypost ("we", "us", "our"). They govern your use of the Penypost mobile app, the website at https://www.penypost.com, and related digital penpal services (the "Service").
By downloading, installing, registering for, or using Penypost, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy (https://www.penypost.com/privacy). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Age Requirement and Account Registration
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if it is higher, to create an account. Children under 13 may not register or use the Service.
If you are under 18, you may use Penypost only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, as required by the laws where you live. We may ask for proof of age or consent, and we may suspend accounts that appear to belong to someone under the required age.
When you register, you agree to give accurate and current information (such as nickname, email address and date of birth) and to keep your login details private. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
3. Your Content and the Licenses You Give Us
You keep ownership of the letters, messages, bios and posts you write on Penypost ("Your Content").
License to run the Service. By submitting Your Content, you give Penypost a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, transmit, format and display it, solely to operate and improve the Service. This includes delivering your letters and showing your posts to other users as you choose.
No promotional use. We do not feature Your Content, including private letters, on Penypost's social media accounts, website or any other channel for promotion. If this ever changes, we will ask for your permission first.
Translation. The translation feature uses Google ML Kit, which translates text on your device. Letter text is not sent to a third-party translation server for this purpose.
What you must not post. You agree not to write, upload, send or share content that contains:
- Harassment, bullying, stalking, intimidation or intentional emotional harm
- Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age
- Sexually explicit, obscene or suggestive material, or any sexual content involving minors
- Spam, chain letters, referral links, or promotion of products or services
- Scams, fraud, phishing, or requests for money or financial help
- Impersonation of any person, organization or Penypost staff
- Promotion of violence, self-harm, dangerous activities, illegal drugs or other illegal acts
- Malicious code or links meant to harm devices or accounts
- Content you do not have the right to share, including other people's private information
4. Private Letters and the Public Feed
Private letters are meant only for the sender and the recipient. We do not read them for marketing and we never post them publicly. We may access them only when needed to handle a report, enforce these Terms, keep the Service secure, or comply with the law.
Feed posts are visible to other Penypost users (and may be visible to anyone if you post to a public area). Do not post anything in the feed that you want to keep private.
Other users could copy or screenshot what you share with them, and we cannot control that. Be careful about sharing personal details such as your full name, address, phone number or school with people you have only met online.
5. Digital Items and In-App Purchases
Penypost sells digital items such as stamps, stickers, letter papers, envelopes and "energy" (together, "Digital Items").
- Payments. Purchases are processed by Google Play. Prices are shown in your local currency at checkout and may include taxes. Your payment details are handled by Google Play, not by us.
- License, not ownership. A Digital Item gives you a personal, non-transferable license to use it inside Penypost. It cannot be exchanged for money, resold, or moved to another account.
- Refunds. Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy. Contact Google Play first. If something went wrong inside Penypost, email hello@penypost.com and we will help.
- Changes. Items, prices and availability may change. We may remove an item from the shop, but we will not remove items you have already purchased unless required by law, by a rights holder, or because your account violates these Terms.
- Energy is a consumable item. Unused energy has no cash value and is lost if your account is deleted or terminated.
- Account closure. If we terminate your account for violating these Terms, you are not entitled to a refund for Digital Items.
6. Creator Artwork and Intellectual Property
Many stamps, stickers, papers and envelopes in the shop are created by independent artists ("Creators"). Creators keep the copyright to their artwork and license it to Penypost to display and sell in the app.
When you buy a Digital Item, you may use it in your letters inside Penypost. You may not copy, extract, screenshot for resale, redistribute, sell or use the artwork outside the app without the Creator's written permission.
The Penypost name, logo, app design and software belong to us. Nothing in these Terms gives you rights to them except the right to use the Service.
Copyright complaints. If you believe content on Penypost infringes your copyright, email hello@penypost.com with your name, a description of the work, where it appears in the app, and a statement that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. We will review it and may remove the content.
7. Safety, Reporting, Blocking and Enforcement
Penypost has a zero-tolerance policy for harmful, illegal or abusive content.
Reporting. You can report any letter, post or user from inside the app. Reports are confidential: the reported user is never told who reported them.
Blocking. You can block any user at any time. Blocking stops further letters between you, removes feed interactions, and prevents that user from writing to you.
Enforcement. We may review reported or flagged content, remove it, and warn, suspend or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms or the community rules. Where the violation is serious (for example harassment, child safety risks or fraud), we may act without prior notice.
Safety with penpals. Penypost is a platform for letter exchange between consenting users. We do not run criminal background checks and cannot verify every user's identity. Use good judgment, never send money, and do not share personal details or arrange to meet in person with someone you only know through the app.
8. Account Deletion and Termination
You can stop using Penypost and delete your account at any time:
- In the app: Profile Settings, then Account, then Delete My Account
- On the web: https://www.penypost.com/delete-account
- By email: hello@penypost.com, from the address registered to your account
What happens when you delete your account
Your profile and personal data are removed as described in our Privacy Policy. Your posts on the feed are removed. Letters you already sent may remain in the recipient's mailbox, with your name shown as a deleted user. Digital Items and unused energy linked to the account are lost and cannot be refunded or transferred.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, put other users at risk, or if we are required to by law. We may also change or discontinue parts of the Service, and we will try to give notice of major changes.
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that letters will always be delivered on a particular schedule.
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Penypost and its owners, developers and affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages. This includes damages from your interactions with other users, from the content of letters or posts, or from meeting anyone offline.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection laws in your country.
10. Changes and Contact
Changes. We may update these Terms. For important changes, we will notify you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Penypost after that, you accept the updated Terms.
